Prayers

Today I was told that God always answers your prayers, it may not be what you asked for but you always get what you need.  It is that kind of simplistic crap that just drives me crazy.  God decides that some people need to die in agony or terror, or that someone "needs" to lose a child from some horrible disease? Why would anyone want anything to do with a God like that? William Sloane Coffin when he lost a child, was asked where was God to let that happen, replied that God was right there, weeping right along with him.

When we are afraid or the entire world seems to have lost its' collective mind, we want God to "do something", fix it, make it better..... we want answers....We want God to cry out, we want to hear Him.
We only have the silence.

"From the cross, he pleaded for a word, any word from God, from the God he could no longer hear..... Finally in the most profound silence of his life, he died, believing himself forsaken by God".  "in the silence surrounding his death, Jesus became the best possible companion for whose prayers are not answered, who would give anything just to hear God call them by name". (Barbara Brown Taylor, When God is Silent)

I don't know... today I want hard and fast answers and there are none.   Be still and know that I am God.  I'm trying, I'm trying.
